Background: RACING and ACADEMIC My coaching expertise combines experience and education. I graduated from U.South Florida in 1989 with a degree in Management Information Systems. I applied that experience as a programmer and manager at EDS for 10 years, only lasting that long in the corporate environment because of the unique cycling program I found in the marketing department of the company. I raced track on the national team from 1996-1998. Track was an incredible experience, with Team EDS, I won the EDS Track Cup in 97 as well as Masters Nationals Titles and World Titles in the pursuit and points race. More noteworthy was my 2nd place in the pursuit to World Champion Rebecca Twigg at the Elite National Championships that same year.
Dabbling in road racing as preparation for track nationals, I sensed the desire to pursue the road full time. I won the Athens Twilight in 97 guest riding for Shaklee and solidified my move to the road. In 1998 I joined the Timex cycling team, taking the opportunity to race full time leaving both my EDS corporate and track cycling careers behind. Racing in the U.S. only lasted 1 year. While leading the USPRO Tour series for women, I pulled off the hometown win at the Lance Armstrong Criterium with Timex. Frustrated with lack of sponsorship and a husband living abroad, I hopped over to Europe to join Chann who was racing for Mapei. Rather than landing a spot on a European team, I found myself growing a family. Hence came the 5 year hiatus from the sport and 2 wonderful daughters, Henna 7, Elle, 4.
While growing a family, I submersed myself in the sport of running, racing 2 marathons with a 3:23 personal best. It was at the Hunstville 30mile endurance race that a running injury forced me back on the bike, Yahoo! I was reunited with my passion. I’m thankful for that injury, I had lost sight of how much I enjoy racing my bike. 2006, I returned to the sport with a win at the Athens Twilight Criterium. http://www.cyclingnews.com/road.phpid=road/2006/apr06/athens06
It’s fun to be right back in the mix of the nation’s top road sprinters. Since 2005, I’ve raced to podium finishes at the US Criterium National Championships. I’ve spent the past 2 seasons with Advil-Chapstick, racing to a silver medal at the U.S. Criterium National Championships, 5th place at the Women’s International Classic in Philadelphia, and an NRC win at the AT&T Austin Downtown Criterium. The racing experience is an integral part of the value I give my athletes.
COACHING: I started coaching in 1998. With a break from racing I wanted to stay involved in the sport and continue applying my experiences and knowledge. Through my own racing experiences, I was exposed to various training methodologies by coaches and directors of my teams. While in Europe, my daily life alongside Chann’s professional career with Mapei and USPS, exposed me to some of the sports best physiologists and directors. As an example, my strength endurance intervals come straight from the training I did with Mapei at their training camp in Tuscany in 1999, as prescribed by Aldo Sassi, their team physiologist.
My style is friendly and professional. I’m commited to helping you meet your goal. I take the time to look at the whole picture and design a training program that will fit your lifestyle. As a mother of 2, professional athlete and coach, I know that balance is key. What you need is what I identify and personalize for you. My training programs are specific daily workouts that are properly periodized based on where we are in the year and relative to your goal event. We peak the time of year you want to be at your best and plan backwards from there.
GOAL ORIENTED: You can’t be interested in getting a coach unless you know what it is you want to accomplish. Success starts with having a goal, if you don’t have one, I’ll help you define it. |
